Why do flights delay sometimes?

Although most flights tend to be on time, flight delays are just as horrible as they are inevitable. Managing business travel itineraries are complex and occasionally nerve-wracking undertakings, one of the most common reasons being flight delays.

Let’s share some reasons why your flight may be delayed.

  • Weather-related issues. Although planes are equipped to take off, fly, and land in all types of weather, sometimes pilots must be far more cautious in certain scenarios. High winds and sleet are two additional factors in weather delays.
  • Engineering issues. If problems are detected during pre-flight checks (say on first class flights to Johannesburg from UK), there may be delays whilst they’re fixed; though you’ll be compensated; with certain terms and conditions.
  • Airport conditions - This is a general catch all term for things unrelated to the flight itself that causes a delay.
  • Windshield damage:- While on air, large birds or other objects bounce off the windshield, may cause delays in other flights.
  • Late arriving aircraft:- If one plane is delayed the connecting flights (say, first class flights to Hong Kong) are also delayed; the effect being referred to as “knock on” effect.
  • Waiting for connecting passengers or connecting bags.
  • Crew problems:- If the crew doesn’t show up suddenly, they must find a new crew.
  • Security measures:- If there is sudden reason for extra security checks.
  • Recently, some delays have been taking place due to checking of temperatures, covid19 certificates, etc. before boarding first class flights to Kingston(for example).

Departures happen on time most of the time. Associate with agents such as Business Flight Shop to help you through these situations. In the event of a problem arising, suggesting strategies for risk management has to be in place that supports business travellers; which is taken care of by them.
